THIS is the man detectives investigating a terrifying late-night sex attack in Bournemouth want to speak to.

Police released CCTV images this afternoon as they look into her frightening ordeal last Saturday night, which saw her followed as she got off a bus and assaulted in a dark street.

They said the incident happened between 11.30pm on Saturday and 12.15am on Sunday in the area of Woodbury Avenue, Townsend.

The victim, a local woman in her early 20s, was not physically injured.

DC Angela Mills, of Bournemouth CID, said: “Following extensive enquiries, I am now able to release four CCTV images of a man I would like to speak with in relation to this incident.

“The young woman was travelling on the number three Yellow bus just prior to the incident and alighted at Castle Lane West.

“A short time later, an unknown man, who is also believed to have been on the same bus, engaged her in conversation before assaulting her.

“The victim has been left shocked and distressed by this ordeal and I urge the man pictured – and anyone who recognises him – to contact me in confidence to assist with the investigation.”

The man is thought to be aged in his thirties.

The frightening incident is the second late-night sex attack in Bournemouth in two weeks.

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Strouden Avenue on July 31.

Now police have launched an appeal for witnesses and information about the latest incident, which left the woman “shocked and distressed”.

Earlier this week residents in the road told the Daily Echo of their concern following the assault, with many saying the street is too dark.

A man arrested in connection with the alleged rape last month has been questioned and released on police bail pending further inquiries.

No arrests have yet been made over last Saturday’s attack.

Anyone with information should call Dorset Police on 101, quoting incident 16:255, or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
