HUNDREDS of people were able to try a whole range of sports during a family-fun event held in Poole Park.

The second annual Join-In Sports Festival saw the park filled with different sports clubs from across the town on Sunday showing off the best of what they offer.

Members of Wessex Amateur Boxing Club, Poole Athletics Club and Dexter Sports YFC were all on-hand to give people an insight into what the groups can offer and how they can become more active.

Ross Jones, recreation development officer at Borough of Poole, said that around 500 people attended the event.

He added: “We had around 30 sports clubs here providing a range of traditional, non-traditional and disability sports for people to try, which included everything from wheelchair rugby to paddle boarding and kayaking on the lake.

“We held the event last year and are hoping to grow.”

Moira Muir of the Friends of Poole Park said: “We were pleased to have athlete Steve Way on our stand to encourage donations and share some of his success stories.

“We also had a fundraising Beat the Goalie challenge, hosted by ex-professional goal keeper Brian Finch.”

“A total of £280 was raised for Poole Park, as part of the Back the Bid campaign for Heritage Lottery Funding (HLF), and the Friends of Poole Park would like to thank everyone who donated or took part.”
