CHARITY workers were left dismayed after burglars raided their new headquarters in Bournemouth.

Everything from laptops to tins of condensed milk and jars of coffee were stolen from Sugar Aware UK at the Lansdowne over the bank holiday weekend.

The charity – which aims to raise awareness of type 2 diabetes – only opened its new HQ and cafe, to be named D’Revolution, in June this year.

Director Sue Jacob said those who help at the site have been left “frustrated” after discovering the theft.

“They just took everything, from our computers to butter,” she said.

“We keep discovering more things that have been stolen. The person who did this knew what they were looking for. All the best IT equipment is gone, as well as the sound system, while older kit has been left. They even took tools like a drill and a sander.”

Area manager Victoria Murgatroyd said employees discovered the theft on Tuesday morning.

“We went to make coffee and then realised the jar of Nescafe was gone,” she said.

“I went to go into the back room and then I realised our Bags for Life had disappeared too. When I looked further, there were all sorts of things missing, like a laptop and a printer. We’re still finding that things are missing.”

The workers are currently renovating the building, which was formerly Priva nightclub.

It will soon reopen as a healthy eating cafe with a games room.

Victoria said: “It’s just really strange.

“It’s not just the bigger items, like the IT kit. The thieves stole a box of nice tea bags, but left behind a cheaper brand. They took a new diary and even tins of evaporated milk. We really need help replacing these things as we worked so hard to get here and now we have to start all over again.”

Sugar Aware UK hopes to launch the new cafe, based at 6a Christchurch Road, later this year. The charity already runs two shops in the area, which are named Diabetes Revolution.
