A CRACK house closure order has been obtained for a “problematic” site that has attracted rough sleepers and drug addicts.

Ongoing problems with 1 Wellington Road, Springbourne, prompted police and Bourne-mouth council to take the action.

Magistrates approved the closure order on Thursday and police officers attended the scene that afternoon.

Six people at the site all left without incident.

According to the terms, the site will now remain closed to the public for three months.

Last December, a derelict house there was severely damaged by fire.

Rough sleepers who had been staying there were rescued by firefighters and taken to hospital.

However, within days the property was once again attracting squatters.

The house was demolished but several homeless people continued to live on the site.

Lorraine Mealings, head of strategic housing at Bourne-mouth council, said: “We have been working closely with the police on their application for a closure order relating to 1 Wellington Road.

“The site has now been cleared and secured.

“The site has been problematic for some time in terms of both persistent disorder and Class A drugs. “The council’s rough sleeper team has also been involved to assist some of the individuals from the site who were rough sleeping.”

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “This sends a clear message to the community that action is being taken against the premises, and informs drug dealers that their activities will not be tolerated.”
