Temporary traffic lights are causing delays at Parley Cross this morning.

There is heavy traffic on the A347 New Road at B3073 Christchurch Road due to four-way temporary lights in place while the main lights are being repaired.

Motorists are being advised to allow extra time, especially if heading to Bournemouth Airport.

Dorset County Council is carrying out the emergency work after a vehicle collided with the equipment three weeks ago.

It will take two days to replace the broken controller, and while the work is being carried out a number of rotting poles will also be changed.

Gordon Sneddon, the county council’s acting traffic manager, said: “The damaged controller needs to be replaced urgently and the earliest practical opportunity to do so is the beginning of September.

“This is an incredibly busy junction all year round and so there is never a good time to do this work. If we don’t deal with this soon all the traffic lights on this section could fail.”

The work will take place on 1 and 2 September, but the permanent signals may not be up and running until after rush hour on Wednesday morning.
