Drivers faced long delays around Christchurch this morning after a car left the bypass just after 7.30am.

The driver of a black Seat Leon is believed to have lost control before veering off the eastbound carriageway into some bushes.

Emergency services were called to the scene, near the Somerford roundabout, and one lane was closed while recovery work was carried out.

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service confirmed it was called to the scene at 7.32am.

She added that there were five casualties - a mother and her four children - none of whom sustained serious injuries.

All lanes have now been reopened but traffic is reported to be very slow.
