A BODY has been found in the search for a missing Dorset woman.

Tributes have been paid to 'kind and thoughtful' Joan Davis, 66, whose body is believed to have been discovered yesterday.

Mrs Davis, of St Helens Road, Dorchester, was reported missing on Monday, having disappeared from her home late on Sunday night.

Officers said they were becoming 'increasingly concerned' for Mrs Davis who was believed to have been recently upset.

A thorough search involving the assistance of the National Police Air Service helicopter was launched to locate her.

Dorset Police confirmed a body was found in Poundbury Fields yesterday.

A spokesman said: “At 1.05pm, a body of a woman was discovered in Poundbury Fields, Dorchester.

“It is believed that the body is that of missing 66-year-old woman Joan Davis.

“There are no suspicious circumstances. The next of kin and coroner have been informed.”

Touching tributes have been paid to Mrs Davis in light of the discovery.

Town crier and West Dorset District councillor Alistair Chisholm said he was 'deeply saddened' to hear the news.

He said: “It's really, really tragic to hear. I knew her well enough to know she was a lovely woman. She was very kind and thoughtful.

“It makes you wonder if there was anything that could have been done or should have been done. I feel overwhelmingly saddened and I know a lot of people who will be very saddened about this. My condolences are with her nearest and dearest.”

Following the news people took to social media to pay their respects to Mrs Davis.

Ashley Newman said: 'Tragic, tragic news. She used to visit my shop, and was always very pleasant. My thoughts are with her family.'
