RESIDENTS waiting for council or housing association homes across Dorset have only a fortnight to re-register, or face removal from the housing list.
This need to re-register, introduced by the authorities comprising the Dorset Choice Home Based Lettings Partnership, is being implemented by officials because the partnership has reviewed the way social housing will be allocated.
If you are on the housing lists in Borough of Poole, Purbeck District Council or North Dorset District Council you need to reapply by the November 11 deadline.
Borough of Poole portfolio holder for housing and housing advice, Cllr Karen Rampton, said: “These changes bring Poole’s scheme in line with national policy and will allow all councils within the partnership to help those with the highest levels of housing need.
“It is important that residents who wish to be considered for housing available on the Dorset Home Choice scheme re-register before the deadline.”
The new allocation policy, taking effect from December 17, means applicants must have a local connection to the authority area to join the register.
Housing chiefs say the changes are also being implemented to ensure applicants have the financial means to “address their housing situation” and that applicants “adequately housed” will no longer be able to remain on or join the register.
Purbeck District Council housing spokesman Cllr Mike Lovell said: “It is important that residents on Purbeck’s housing list re-register before the deadline, otherwise they cannot be considered for housing on the Dorset Home Choice Scheme.
“The refreshed housing register will enable us to take account of local circumstances so that the council can help those most in need in Dorset.”
