THE mayor of Bournemouth will ditch his robes and chains when he takes to the stage in a charity performance.

Rock ‘n roll fan Cllr Chris Mayne will join fellow Conserva-tive councillors Michael Wein-honig and John Adams who, together with Cllr John Trickett make up the Strouden Blues at Mr Kyps tomorrow, from 8.30pm.

They will be supporting the Rory Gallagher Tribute Band and assisted by the All Night Workers in what is being billed as a soul and blues extravaganza. All proceeds will benefit the mayor’s charities – the Amelia-Grace Rainbow Fund, the Bournemouth Leukaemia Fund, the Bournemouth Male Voice Choir, Bournemouth YMCA and the Special Olympics.

The set will include music from Wilson Pickett and Rufus Thomas.

Grandfather-of-six Cllr Mayne, a former chorister who has performed in St Paul’s Cathedral, the Royal Albert Hall and Winchester Cathedral, made a cd of World War One songs with the three Strouden Park councillors earlier this year and said they were keen to go one step further and do a proper gig.

“Michael (Weinhonig) has got a great voice for soul,” he said.

“I carry on with a bit of Chuck Berry, which is my thing, and we all do a bit of lead vocals. We’ve got quite an interesting set list, it should be quite good.”
