A man was led to safety after a fire in the kitchen of his home in West Howe on Friday night.
The incident took place just after 11pm in Lydford Gardens.
A worried neighbour called the fire service after hearing the smoke detector sounding in the property next to his.
Two wholetime crews from Redhill Park and Westbourne were sent and arrived on scene within five minutes to find a small fire in a first floor kitchen.
Crews we used two breathing apparatus sets and a hose reel jet.
One male casualty was led to safety and left in the care of paramedics although he is not thought to have suffered any serious injuries.
Police officers were also called to the address.
A spokesperson for Dorset Fire and Rescue said: "The cause of the fire is believed to have been accidental - unattended cooking - and fortunately there was only a small amount of heat damage caused to the cooker, with light smoke damage to the first floor."
