A woman was reported trapped in a BMW car which was involved in a head-on collision with a Honda Accord on Upton Road.
The woman has been freed by emergency services and is believed to have a suspected broken ankle.
The red BMW is registered to a woman from Swanage and the blue VTEC Sport Honda is registered to a woman from Poole.
Dorset Police were called at 3.53pm and the road has been closed between the roundabout at the entrance to the park and ride and the A35 sliproad, causing queues of traffic to build up.
Sergeant Nikki Burt advised motorists to take extra care due to tricky driving conditions.
The trapped woman was reported to have been released from the BMW at 4.34pm.
Police reported at 7pm that the A35 Upton Road both ways has re-opened,
