A MAN was taken to hospital this morning following a two-vehicle smash in West Parley.

Paramedics, firefighters and police officers were called to New Road at 11.50am, arriving within four minutes to find that a van and a car had collided.

A man was trapped inside the car and needed to be cut free by fire crews.

A spokesperson from the Dorset Fire and Rescue Service said: “One casualty was still inside the saloon vehicle, and, on the advice of paramedics, fire crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the roof of the vehicle, having stabilised it first.

“One male casualty was then released from the vehicle and placed onto a stretcher before being taken to hospital by road ambulance.”

The road was blocked for more than an hour while the vehicles were recovered
