A PARAPLEGIC man who was subjected to a horrific attack as he lay in his bed has been found dead.

Emergency services were called to Andrew Durey’s home in Parsonage Road, Bournemouth, on the afternoon of Friday October 17 where they found his body.

There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

The coroner has been informed and inquiries are being carried out. An inquest will be held at a later date.

In August two drug addicts were jailed for 12 years each after Bournemouth Crown Court heard how they launched a vicious attack on Mr Durey.

Matthew Edwards, 32, now at HMP Winchester, attacked him with his fists and a samurai sword and threatened him with a knife.

Homeless drug addict and prostitute Leanne Mayers, 29, beat him around the head with a kettle and also hit his carer on the head with a stone.

Mr Durey suffered a catalogue of injuries including a bleed on his brain which required surgery and, after the case, his mother condemned his attackers. She also released a picture showing the extent of her son’s injuries and added: “As a mother I felt like doing the same to them. He couldn’t defend himself.”

Mr Durey was paralysed in a motorbike accident 12 years ago.

Sentencing Edwards and Mayers, Judge Samuel Wiggs said: “The photographs of Mr Durey in his own home are some of the worst scenes of bloody violence I have ever been shown in court.”

Police confirmed they were called to a sudden death at Parsonage Road and there were no suspicious circumstances.
