A PARKSTONE teen was given a ‘dream opportunity’ when he got to chat with David Cameron about his own ambitions to become Prime Minister.

Adam Trant, 15, from Magna Academy, on Ashdown Close, met the PM as he visited Poole to announce plans to build 100,000 low-cost properties as part of his Starter Homes initiative.

The Year 11 student said that the visit was sprung upon him, due to security reasons, and so he said when he found out who the special VIP was, it was ‘absolutely amazing’ and ‘a dream come true’.

Adam added: “I greeted him from the car and then went into the school, where he spoke to students about what life was like here and how it has changed since it became an academy.

“He also asked us about ourselves and when he spoke to me, I mentioned about wanting to be a politician in the future.

“I asked him about whether it would be better for me to go to Oxford University or London School of Economics and as he walked out of the door, he said that he would recommend Oxford. I couldn’t really argue with his advice on that.”

Adam says that as a person, David Cameron was gentle, down-to-earth and put the students at ease. “It was mind-blowing to think that he was at our school and it was an honour to be chosen to speak to him.

“I would like to be a politician one day, but of course if I had the chance, then I would like to be Prime Minister.”

When asked why Adam looks to pursue a career in politics, he said: “When I was younger, I just didn’t think that politicians were doing a good job and I thought that I could do it better myself.

“I saw ways that they could improve the country and I’m confident with public speaking.

“I also think that everybody should be treated the same no matter who you are or where you have come from.”
