THE death of a man found dead in the hallway entrance to his home in Bournemouth is not being treated as suspicious.

Police were today continuing to investigate the death of the man in his 40s, whose body was discovered just outside the main door of a block of flats in Cavendish Road.

Emergency services were called to the property at 1.19am on Thursday but nothing could be done to save him and police said the man had sustained “serious head injuries”.

Dorset Police launched an investigation into the circumstances of his death and the house was cordoned off to allow forensic teams to examine the scene as officers scoured the area for clues.

A post mortem carried out on Thursday has proved inconclusive and further tests are planned.

Detective Chief Inspector Jez Noyce, of Bournemouth CID, said: “We are continuing to investigate the death of a man in Cavendish Road in Bournemouth in the early hours of Thursday.

“At this time the death is not being treated as suspicious. However, we are carrying out a number of lines of enquiry to find out how this man came to sustain his injuries and I would urge anyone who saw or heard anything unusual in Cavendish Road between 10.30pm and 11.30pm on Wednesday, January 28 to come forward.”

The formal identification of the man’s body was carried out today and an inquest into his death is expected to be opened and adjourned next week.

Neighbours living in the block declined to speak, with one telling the Daily Echo: "It's still too raw".

A woman living in a nearby property, who asked not to be named, said: "It's a terrible shock to hear that a young man has died.

"This has always been a nice road to live in, and it's very frightening."

Witnesses or anyone with information have been asked to call Dorset Police on 101 quoting incident number 29:13, or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
