A MOTORCYCLIST has died after a crash on the A35 in Dorset.

Earlier, Dorset Police informed the Daily Echo that a 23-year-old man from Exeter had been arrested in connection with the incident and had been released on bail pending further enquiries.

They have now informed us that this is not the case and that no arrests have been made.  

Dorset Police said the collision happened at the junction of Elsdon’s Lane and the A35 near Lyme Regis at approximately 5.30pm yesterday.

A red Volvo goods vehicle driven by a 23-year-old man from Exeter was involved in a collision with an orange motorcycle driven by a 26-year-old man from Lyme Regis.

The driver of the motorcycle sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol but police officers said that sadly he died of his injuries a short while later.

His next of kin have been informed.

The road was closed for several hours while crash scene investigators worked at the scene.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the crash or the manner of driving of either vehicle to come forward.
