A MAN was rushed to hospital after a four-vehicle crash on the A31 yesterday evening.
The crash on the westbound carriageway at Bratley Arch involved a Ford Transit van, a Toyota Corolla, a Vauxhall Astra, and a Vauxhall Insignia.
Both the westbound and eastbound carriageways were closed while the air ambulance landed but they were re-opened at 6.30pm.
At least one person was cut free from a vehicle and traffic tailed back as far as the M27.
A man in his 20s suffered non life-threatening injuries after the crash at 4.15pm. The accident occurred around three miles west of Stoney Cross.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, including five police cars and four fire crews from Totton, Burley, Romsey and Redbridge.
South Central Ambulance Service sent one ambulance crew, an emergency care practitioner, an ambulance officer and a hazardous area response team.
Motorists faced tailbacks of around 30 minutes after the road was closed at about 5pm to allow the air ambulance to land. Police are now investigating the cause of the crash.
