THEY have run more than 100 marathons between them and on Sunday they will be taking part in one of the most famous races of all.

This weekend, members of Poole Athletics Club will be heading to the nation’s capital for the 35th Virgin London Marathon.

Ladies captain Sharon Barlow said: “The club has some amazing talent. We are a friendly welcoming group, catering for all abilities from age eight and upwards. We would encourage anyone to come along and give it a try!”

Emma Jones is running her first London marathon, but this will actually be her 57th marathon.

Trisha Mills and Karen Fry are raising funds for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance service.

John Bassinder, who took up running only three and a half years ago, following spinal surgery, is raising funds for the Progressive Supranuclear Palsy association. So far he has raised nearly £1,500 Nigel Rogerson is part of the Poole AC Championship team, with David Jones and David Broadly.

They each had to run a marathon in under 2 hours 45 mins to qualify for the championship start line.

Graham Filmer has already completed the Brighton marathon earlier this month, so London will be his second marathon in 15 days.

Lesley Moore has gone from strength to strength after running her first marathon ten years ago. After completing her last marathon in under 3 hours and 30 minutes, she will now be on the same start line as Paula Radcliffe.
