WORKS to repair a damaged section of Bath Road in Bournemouth get under way on Monday.

Highways experts say the road has suffered significant damage in recent years, largely as a result of severe winter weather, and it will be reconstructed in sections between the St Peter's and Lansdowne roundabouts.

A partial road closure will be in place for the duration of the works. A signed diversion will direct southbound traffic along Meyrick Road and Gervis Road.

Ian Kalra, Bournemouth Council's head of transportation services, said: "In an effort to avoid additional disruption these works have been planned and co-ordinated to take place at the same time as works being carried out on this length of road by Southern Gas Networks and Bournemouth Water.

"The highway works will be carried out over a number of extended daytime and early evening shifts, reducing the overall duration and impact on motorists using this route."

The authority said access to properties would be maintained where possible, but there may be periods when restrictions were necessary. Bus services will also be affected.

The works are due to be complete by Friday, May 22.
