MARCH for Men has raised thousands of pounds for Bournemouth Hospital Charity.

Some 300 people walked or ran the 1km, 5km and 10km routes and raised more than £16,000 for state-of-the-art prostate cancer diagnosis equipment.

It will enable urologists to investigate the whole prostate gland, giving a much more accurate diagnosis and reducing waiting times for patients at Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

Barry Wilson, fundraising officer at the charity, said: “We are thrilled with the success of the 2015 March for Men. Sixteen thousand pounds is a fantastic amount but we know there’s still more to come in.

“If you haven’t submitted your sponsorship money, please do so – it really will make a difference.”

He added: “We have already set the date for next year’s event, which will take place on Sunday, March 20, so please put the date in your diaries so you don’t miss out.”

Over 15,000 men are treated at the hospital each year for a number of conditions, including prostate and testicular cancer.

Bournemouth Hospital Charity aims to raise £2m each year to support patients, and donations to the charity provide the funding for much-needed equipment and resources.
