POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a car failed to stop when it collided with a cyclist in Broadstone this morning.

The incident took place outside children’s hospice Julia’s House on Springdale Road shortly after 6am. The cyclist, a 58-year-old man from Corfe Mullen, was left with serious back, neck and arm injuries after the collision with the car.

Police closed the road between Roman Road and Highfield Road while they dealt with the incident, and the cyclist was taken to Poole Hospital.

Police Constable Vivienne Bedford, of Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit, said: “I am investigating how this man sustained his injuries and would appeal to anyone who may have seen the collision or the cyclist prior to the incident to please call me on 101.

“All calls will be treated in strict confidence,” she added.
