EMERGENCY services were called to a crash involving a mobility scooter and a car in Christchurch this afternoon.

A call came in to South Western Ambulance Service at 2.50pm with reports of the incident on the roundabout off Hoburne Lane.

One crew of ambulance staff and a rapid response vehicle were on the scene and staff attended to one casualty, a man in his 90s, who was reported to be breathing and conscious.

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service said the man was treated at the scene and did not need to be taken to hospital.

She said: "The patient was in a bit of shock but did not require hospital treatment."

The car involved was a white Ford Fiesta registered to a man from Christchurch.

A Dorset Police spokesperson confirmed that the road was blocked and that an elderly man on the mobility scooter had been involved in the incident.

Resident Daniel Griffiths heard sirens but did not see anything. However, he said he was not surprised an incident like this had happened. “I hear horns going off at least once an hour at that roundabout because people are in the wrong lane."

He added: “I've never heard of somebody being knocked off a mobility scooter on that roundabout but it doesn't surprise me there was an accident. I hope the person is ok.”
