A 12-year-old girl from Wimborne will have her West End big break next month in a performance of Annie Junior.

Jasmin-Rose Marks has loved musical theatre since she was a toddler, and in August she will be performing a main role in the heart of London's theatre district.

After impressing the casting crew in her audition last month, she will play orphan girl Duffy in a production of Annie at the Arts Theatre, near Leicester Square, between August 28-31.

Mum Sarah, from Blind Lane, said: "I am very proud of her, I must have cried about 100 times.

"She is quite a quiet girl and used to be very nervous and introverted, but she always liked dancing, and since she started performing with Stagecoach in Poole she has gained a lot of confidence.

"She has been dancing and choreographing her own moves since she was aged three.

"I had every faith that she would get the part."

Jasmin said she was "excited" about taking part in the production, and confirmed her love of musical theatre - her favourite show is Wicked.

As well as Stagecoach, the Allenbourn Middle School pupil attends Footlight Performance Academy in Wimborne and recently appeared in a production of Annie in Ferndown called Encore, produced by Poole-based P&J Productions.

She enjoys acting, dancing and singing and has an upcoming trial at London's Pineapple Dance Studios.

At school she is in the textiles club and recently took part in a fashion show.

The Annie Junior production is intended to provide a platform for young aspiring actors and dancers to get a feel for performing in a professional environment.

The performers are all young people aged between five and 21, even in the adult roles.
