POLICE were called to a road in Poole on Tuesday evening following reports of gunshots that later turned out either to be the sound of a nail gun or a fence panel flapping in the wind.
Twelve officers, three firearms vehicles and a dog unit were called to Ardmore Road in Poole after receiving reports of a gun being fired and a woman screaming.
The sound was initially believed to be the noise of a fence panel from a construction site flapping in the wind.
Police say the sound could have been either from a flapping fence panel or a nail gun being used by workers.
A Dorset Police spokeswoman said: "We were called at 5.13pm and sent police officers, firearms vehicles and a dog unit to close the road and carry out a thorough search of the area.
"We had to investigate and speak to all the residents, however there was no trace of a firearm in the area. "
She added that police left the scene at around 6pm.
