THE gruesome discovery of two decomposing puppies dumped at a property in Bournemouth has prompted an RSPCA information appeal.

A landlady, who was clearing out a property she had rented on Brassey Road, called police last month after finding the remains wrapped in bin bags hidden in the garden shed.

Officers seized the bodies, both British bulldogs, before handing them to the RSPCA, which carried out post-mortems and launched an investigation.

RSPCA inspector Jo Storey said she is keen to hear from anybody who may have information about how the dogs died.

“It was a terrible sight to behold and they had clearly been there for some time as the smell was just awful,” she said. “They were very young dogs and it really is just such a sad case.

“A detailed investigation has taken place into what could have happened to these poor dogs but due to the state of the bodies we have not yet been able to determine a cause of death and this unfortunately leaves us with a lack of evidence.

“We would however like to appeal to anyone that could help us to determine the cause of death of these two dogs and would urge anyone who might know anything about what happened here to call the RSPCA inspector appeal line on 0300 123 8018.

“We would in particular be keen to hear from anybody with any information about how these dogs died, and whether they suffered before they died.”

The woman who made the find, and who does not want to be identified, said she had been left “sickened” and urged anybody with information that might help the authorities to come forward.

“How could anybody be that callous?” she said. “People had been calling Environmental Health about the smell and we assumed it must be the drains, but it was actually coming from the shed. It was so upsetting to find them like that.”

A Dorset Police spokesman confirmed the force was called to the property at 10am on June 13.

He added: “Officers attended and we seized the dogs and handed them over to the RSPCA to investigate.”
