UPTON Country Park is the stunning setting for the seventh annual Poole Town & Country Show.

The two day show over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday August 1 and 2 will see the best of urban and rural pursuits brought together.

Last year thousands of people enjoyed the event over the two days and organisers Oakleigh Fairs are hoping for an equally impressive turnout.

Organiser Emma Owen said of last year's event, "The great people of Poole and the surrounding area decided to completely ignore that it was pouring with rain first thing on Saturday, ignore the weather forecast and come out anyway, bless them."

She said of this year's show: "There will be something for everyone."

Falconry and birds of prey displays, Totally Ponies, Purbeck Gun Digs display team, ferret racing with Purbeck Ferrets, Totally Terriers racing team, children's farm, Moment in Time and Ibutho historical re-enactment groups are among the attractions.

Totally Goats features bottle feeding lambs and kids and brand new this year is the Amazing Kondini, a traditional sideshow act whose strongman antics and skills with a drill are said to be once seen, never forgotten.

Demonstrations of rural skills include besom brook making and skilled craftsmen will be on hand to share their insights and knowledge.

On Sunday the show will host the Companion Dog Show, sponsored by Skinner's Pet Foods, and all proceeds will go to Marie Curie Cancer Care.

"And we will also have very popular music from Celtic Confusion playing throughout the weekend with their blend of traditional and folk music," she added.

Youngsters will also be able to enjoy inflatables, and there will be a children's fairground, for which a charge applies.

Unique gifts will be available in the arts, crafts and gifts marquees and there will be lifestyle and food stands alongside a licensed bar featuring real ales and scrumpy.

The show is open from 10am to 5pm both days and entry is £6 adults, £5 concessions, £3 for children aged five to 16, with a family ticket covering two adults and two children for £15.

Advance tickets at discounted rates are available from oakleighfairs.co.uk/upton and people are urged to attend via public transport, bike or walk where possible.
