A MOTORCYCLIST has been taken to hospital with potentially serious injuries after a crash near Parley Cross this morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene at Christchurch Road just before 6.40am.
The incident involved a car and a motorcycle.
Police closed the road at the Parley Cross traffic lights and Dudsbury Avenue.
The incident involved a blue Vauxhall Corsa and a red Moto Guzzi Stelvio motorcycle.
A male motorcyclist was taken to hospital by ambulance.
The road remains closed to allow for recovery of the vehicles and debris to be cleared from the road.
There is a significant amount of fuel on the road, a spokesperson for Dorset Police said.
The closure of the road is causing long delays for motorists this morning.
The road is part of the main diversion route from the A338 roadworks.
There are gas main works taking place near Parley Cross this week, on the A347 New Road.
Described by the county council as 'essential roadworks', the work will mean 24 hour lights, operated manually from 7am until 7pm.
