AN inquest has been opened into the death of a 91-year-old man after a two-vehicle crash in Lytchett Matravers.

Peter Brett died the day after his blue Mercedes A class car was in collision with a white Ford Transit van on Friday September 18.

A Bournemouth inquest heard the cause of Mr Brett's death is unascertained, pending further investigation.

The two vehicles collided with each other before knocking down a wall in front of the Rose and Crown public house.

The driver of the van, an 84-year-old man from Swanage, was uninjured.

Touching tributes were paid to Mr Brett, who lived in Lytchett Matravers, by his family.

In a statement they said: "We are devastated to say that Peter is no longer with us, and he will be greatly missed by his wife, daughter and grandchildren."

The inquest was adjourned until March 17.
