ONE woman from Christchurch has launched a campaign to reduce the speed limit at a busy road after she was involved in a car crash along the same stretch.

Wendy Hill, who lives at Lyndhurst Road where she is trying to get the national speed limit reduced to 40 mph, was in a crash with her sister earlier this year.

Now she's calling on businesses, councillors and residents to back Campaign 40.

She is asking for the speed limit to be lowered from 40mph to 30 mph from the Sainsbury's roundabout to the national speed limit zone near to Toby Carvery.

The 45-year-old also wants to see the limit at Roeshot Hill reduced from 60mph down to 40mph.

Ms Hill said: "I was involved in a very serious road traffic accident whilst travelling along Lyndhurst Road which caused many injuries to both my sister and I.

"We all agree that something has to be done about the speed of this local road. Since June to present day far too many accidents have happened which speeding has played a contributing factor.

"We all know of someone who has been killed or injured by an accident over the years on the road. That is why I am asking you all to please show your support and sign your name. Together we can make a difference."

The move follows a spate of accidents over the last year.

As previously reported, James Battrick was jailed for six years and nine months at a court hearing in September after his drug-fuelled driving resulted in the deaths of his passengers Lily Butterfield-Godwin and Abbey Rogers.

More recently, a cyclist suffered serious head injuries and was airlifted to hospital following a crash earlier this month at Roeshot Hill.

In August one man was killed and six people injured, including a family of five, in a two-car collision.

The accident claimed the life of 89-year-old Herbert Thorn.

Ms Hill added: "I would like to thank all my friends and family for their help and support in getting Campaign 40 off the ground and making it happen.

The amount of support from local businesses and residents has been absolutely amazing."
