THE team behind Sunseeker’s fastest-ever selling boat came together to celebrate its success.

Poole’s luxury boat company has already sold 66 of the Predator 57 – with a price tag of around £1million each.

A photocall at Sunseeker's factory on Willis Way Industrial Estate, Poole, brought together the people who built the boat with the designers, engineers and executive board.

They were celebrating winning the Motor Boat of the Year Award for Best Sportscruiser Over 45ft from Motor Boat & Yachting Magazine.

The range was launched at the London Boat Show last year.

The company’s chief executive, Phil Popham, said: “We’re building round about 40-42 a year. We sold all we built last year and we’ve got orders going into the second half of this year.

“Every five days there’s another one coming online.”

The Predator 57 has an electric cabin door which can be lowered to create a bigger space for entertaining, while the hardtop roof can be fully opened.

Mr Popham said: “It’s a boat that you can sail in any territory in the world without making adaptations.”

Sunseeker’s principal design engineer, Luke Stride, first came to Sunseeker on work experience 25 years ago and has been working there for 12 years.

He said ability to lower the door made the boat flexible for all uses.

“It’s similar to an apartment with a great big balcony and bi-folding doors,” he added.

The Predator 57 can travel at up to 40 knots.

Sunseeker is to launch several models this year – the 131 Yacht, the 116 Yacht, the 95 Yacht and the Manhattan 52.

It recently announced that it would be recruiting 225 skilled staff at its factories in Poole and Portland.

Chinese-owned Sunseeker made a loss of £41m in 2014 but has said it expects to turn a profit in 2016.

The company was started as Poole Power Boats by brothers Robert and John Braithwaite in 1969.
