WHEN tens of thousands of people were drawn to the second day of the 2016 New Forest Show, there was not a disappointed look among them.

The weather held off for the many show-goers as they revelled in the numerous activities and games they had been expecting.

One of the many highlights was the record-breaking attempt to throw as many Wellington Boots simultaneously as humanly possible – in a bid to beat the target set on Tuesday of 616.

And once again members of the Metropolitan Police were met with welcoming applause when they gave a “stunning” show.

Officers rode into view before demonstrating a number of gravity-defying and inch-perfect stunts before the crowds.

Riders and horses even jumped through hoops of fire, as well as accurately performing fast crossovers and jumps in the middle of the arena, known as the Hoburne Ring, as the surrounding onlookers broke into rounds of applause.

Show president for this year is the Countess of Wessex who arrived yesterday despite rumours of ill health.

She helped to inspect some of the 1,000 sheep that are on display, accompanied by her Basset hound Flash.

Small children could be seen engaging with animals at the show farm, holding little fuzzy chicks and stroking rabbits.

Some older visitors took note from some of the many flowers on display while others enjoyed crafts at the village green.

Show secretary Denis Dooley said: “We’ve had a really good day. The weather has been perfect. Everyone seems to be fully enjoying themselves which is the main thing.

“The Metropolitan Police stunned the crowds.

“We have had good numbers and it looks like it’s been very busy indeed.

“We’ve had 1,000 sheep, 400 cattle, there has been lots and lots to do for people. There are 35 different sections and activities. We’ve got the WI, local produce from Hampshire and the New Forest and just lots of fun things for people to do.”

The fun concludes tomorrow where visitors can expect to see more stunts, more horse displays and more livestock.
