A FAMILY-owned business supplying game in the “most ethical manner” to its customers has launched in Dorset.

Wessex Game, has opened a new store at The Oaks Garden Centre just outside Wimborne.

The store aims to support the growing popularity of game in the region, as consumers seek a more interesting, contemporary and health conscious alternative.

Sourced in the Dorset countryside, by sister organisation Wessex Deer Management, Wessex Game offer customers the best quality venison, vacuum packed to seal in that same day freshness.

Owner, Nick Good, said: “It is not always known that venison provides far more protein and health benefits than other red meats.

“It is extremely low in fat too, and richer in iron. It is also full of B vitamins that lower health risks. Gone are the rich sauces for the more modern palette, and it certainly finds its way onto our family table several times a week.”

Game used to be associated with fine dining and a more costly option. Or it was seen as a meat which could only served with rich sauces that disguised its true and actually quite delicate flavour. But now it is growing in popularity.

By managing the entire process, from land to plate, Wessex Game want to ensure venison reaches people in the most ethical manner, from animals that are chemical free and have enjoyed a wild and natural life.

The company’s team of butchers have both decades of experience behind them.
