PART of a building in Bournemouth, which was said to be ‘on the brink of collapse’, has been demolished.

The Grade II listed building on Poole Hill had been vacant for several years, but it was inspected by Bournemouth council’s building control officers on Tuesday after concerns were raised about its safety.

Formerly a Kodak Express store, a planning application to convert the building into flats and two retail units was refused last year.

A spokesperson for Bournemouth council said for “public safety reasons” a formal notice for partial demolition was served.

Gary Small, of Ferndown-based company Direct Demolition, said his team arrived at the site within an hour of being called on Wednesday.

“It was a dangerous structure, and the building was ready to collapse. Our demolition experts saved the day by pulling the building down in a controlled manner.”

Poole Hill was closed while the demolition work was carried out.
