THE Lulworth Estate is set to host its first ever off-road cycling event today.

This event, held in conjunction with British Cycling, will include a 46km and a 59km route, across sections of the estate not usually accessible to the public.

Organiser Stephen Muncaster, of Experience Lulworth Outdoors, said: “Lulworth has some superb off-road riding so we are thrilled to be able to open them up to passionate riders in this inaugural event.

"It is a challenging route with some punishing hills but riders will be more than rewarded with fast-flowing descents, awesome views of the Jurassic Coast, wildflower meadows and eighteenth century follies."

The Lulworth Estate extends over 20 square miles of the south Dorset countryside, including five miles of the Jurassic Coast and internationally renowned landmarks such as Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door and Lulworth Castle.

Since 1641 the estate has been owned and managed by the Weld family.

Online entry is now available through British Cycling.

Entrants must be over 16, anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Adult entry: £30. U18's: £25.

Sign-on will commence at 8.30am at Daggers Gate Grain Store, near Durdle Door Caravan Park and will close at 10am.
