What’s on near Bournemouth this Bank Holiday weekend?

Here’s a round up of some of the events happening near Bournemouth between Friday, August 26 and August 29 Bank Holiday Monday.

Great Dorset Steam Fair

Date: August 25-29

Location: South Down, Tarrant Hinton, Blandford, Dorset DT11 8HX

The world's largest heritage event, the Great Dorset Steam Fair celebrates British heritage, entertaining the crowds across more than 600 acres.

This year, for the first time in its history, there will be a Modern Classic Motorcycle Section, complementing the already bursting programme including Historic and Classic Motorvehicles, World War I and II Commemorations and Tractor Power.

Day tickets, evening tickets and tickets coving the entire event are available from the Great Dorset Steam Fair website.

Steamship Circus Workshops

Date: August 28

Location: Lower Gardens, Bournemouth BH2 5AH

Bournemouth-based contemporary performance group Steamship Circus are inviting spectators to witness their extraordinary skills.

Along with circus workshops for youngsters, you can expect to see a fire show and a giant walkabout.

The 2022 British BMX Championships

Date: August 27-28

Location: Bournemouth BMX Track, Iford Lane, Bournemouth,

Dorset BH6 5N

The British BMX Championships is the finale to the British BMX Series, this year being held in Bournemouth.

Hosted by the volunteer-run Bournemouth BMX Club, celebrating its 40th anniversary next year, it will be held at Dorset's only BMX track.

Camping and parking should be booked in advance via the Bournemouth BMX website.

3 Acres Summer Gathering

Date: August 27-28

Location: Ashley Cross Green, Poole BH14 8UF

The first ever 3 Acres Summer Gathering will feature music from headliners Finley Quaye, Mark Morriss from the Bluetones, the Ed Sheeran Experience tribute show and a host of top local talent on the support bill.

Bournemouth Friday Fireworks

Date: August 26

Location: Bournemouth coastline

It's the last free Friday Fireworks in Bournemouth of the summer.

From 10pm, visitors will be able to enjoy the spectacle on the seafront.

Wimborne in Bloom Duck Race

Date: August 27

Location: Beside the Riverside Mews Café, River Allen, Wimborne

The 22nd annual Wimborne in Bloom Duck Race takes place on Saturday.

The winner of the first ‘duck’ home will receive £50, second prize is £25 and third £10.

Ducks cost £1 each and will be sold in Wimborne from Thursday.

Sausage and Cider Festival

Date: August 27-29

Location: The New Inn, Wimborne Road, Poole

Customers can enjoy a variety of homemade sausages and handpicked ciders.
