CCTV footage showing the movements of two teenage killers before and after they murdered a man in his own home has been released.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) presented the videos during the trial of Jack James Hindley and Samuel Roy Jones at Winchester Crown Court.
Hindley, 17 and of Christchurch, and Jones, 17 and of Bournemouth, were found guilty of murdering Edward Reeve at his home in Heath Road, Walkford on New Year’s Eve last year.
The convictions came back in July and both defendants were named for the first time in late September when a judge decided to lift a reporting restriction on their identities before he handed them life prison sentences with a minimum term of 18 years behind bars.
Hindley and Jones inflicted multiple stab wounds upon vulnerable 35-year-old Mr Reeve before leaving him to bleed to death alone at his property.
As reported, detectives said there were many strands to their investigation, with CCTV footage playing an important part in showing the defendants’ movements both on the night of the attack as well as in the days afterwards.
The CPS has released some of the footage shown during the trial following the sentencing hearing and lifting of the reporting restriction.
In the first clip, Hindley and Jones can be seen entering Walkford Stores before they went to Mr Reeve’s address on the evening of December 31.
The video highlights a JD Sports bag, which was referenced on several occasions during the prosecution’s case.
The next clip is from later on New Year’s Eve and shows the boys, who were both aged 16 at the time, heading back towards Walkford Stores after leaving Mr Reeve critically wounded in his own home.
A short piece of footage shows Jones, the crown suggested “re-enacting” a stabbing motion from the attack.
The final piece of footage released by the CPS is from the evening of January 3 when Hindley decided to go back to Heath Road. His movements were tracked through the Beryl hire bike he was using, which can be seen in the video.
The trial heard Hindley did not go into Mr Reeve’s home on January 3. He was also seen on CCTV at Hinton Admiral Railway Station that evening.
At that stage there had been extensive media reporting on the attack, the police investigation and police appeals for information from the public.
