A CARE provider in Bournemouth has been told it requires improvement after an inspection by regulators.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has rated Bespoke Care Services East Dorset in Dean Park Crescent, Bournemouth as ‘requires improvement’.

Inspectors visited the provider in September and October and found shortfalls in recruitment, safeguarding and legal obligations to report events within the service.

The service’s manager Claire Levers said steps are being taken to address the CQC’s concerns.

Published earlier this month, the report said: “Safe recruitment practices were not always followed with appropriate checks not always being completed to ensure that only suitable staff were employed.

“People may have been placed at a risk of harm from staff members who had not been recruited safely.

“Safeguarding concerns had not been raised correctly to the local authority as required by the regulations.

“This meant safeguarding concerns were not always known, investigated and corrective and/or preventative action taken which placed people at potential risk of harm.”

Providers are required to report any “significant incidents” to CQC, but they report said notifications had not been completed and sent.

The report added staff received an “appropriate induction” and were “well supported” through regular supervision and training.

People also found the service to be well-led, friendly and caring and staff had a good understanding of the care and support needed, according to the report.

Claire Levers, manager at Bespoke Care Services East Dorset, said “robust staff files have been put in place” and an app they use for rotas does not given access to staff who have not had a DBS check.

She added: “An in-house trainer is joining the company in the new year who will be doing full induction and all mandatory training before staff are allowed to work.

“Audits are being completed monthly including staff files and a quarterly governance audit and actions that need completing and when they will be completed by and by whom.

“Feedback forms are being sent out to all new clients and clients whose previous forms got lost in the post due to office move.

“Clients will be informed of any actions taken, a ‘you said. We did’ form has been sent out to clients whose feedback we previously received.”
