More than 70 children aged six to ten participated in a Dorset junior short tennis tournament at Queen Elizabeth School, Wimborne.
The event began on May 16, 1985, on a round-robin basis and was followed by a knockout competition.
Eight children won the right to represent Dorset in the eight-and-under regional tournament in Exeter later that year.
They were Lara Norton Jennifer Keighley, Sarah-Jane Bloor, Catherine Hemp, Peter Whalle, Mark Woodridge, Matthew Searle and Anthony Fry.
