IT was Easter Sunday and the mercury was low on Bournemouth seafront, but there was plenty to keep automotive enthusiasts warm as almost 200 vehicles packed the West Cliff Promenade for the first ‘Classic Cars On The Prom’ of the 2003 season.
The free informal gathering for vehicles registered before August 1983, was just three short of the magic double century, but this was still the second-largest assembly in the three years of the regular event.
Of those attending on April 21, 2003, some 79 were first-timers coming from across the south.
The furthest distance travelled, and by one of the oldest cars there, was a 1938 Bentley 4.5 litre Le Mans Tourer which undertook the long journey from Chelmsford in Essex.
It was just piped to the honour of being the earliest registered vehicle by a 1925 Morris Cowley Bullnose which came from Christchurch.
