A NEW ‘clutter-free’ radio station is launching in Bournemouth.

Bournemouth One is a brand-new station covering local news and playing some of the top hits.

The station has been 'five years in the making' and was created by radio directors Sophie Greenwood and Roy Martin, alongside a small team of radio professionals.

The announcement of its upcoming launch comes 100 years after the launch of 6BM - Bournemouth’s first radio station which lasted 16 years.

Sophie Greenwood said: “We’ve got a superb radio station to offer both listeners and advertisers in the local area and we hope everyone will give us a listen by asking their smart speaker to ‘play Bournemouth One’.”

Bournemouth One is described as a “clutter-free service” with no long commercial breaks or DJs interrupting the flow of music and will play popular songs from the 1980s to 2020s, with occasional classics and new songs.

A '20/20' update, broadcast every 20 minutes, will provide real-time information from a team of journalists and announcers, including breaking news, weather alerts, what’s on, coastal information, live temperature checks and current roadworks/traffic hotspots.

Updates will cover the wider Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area, along with surrounding towns including Wimborne, Ferndown, Verwood and Ringwood.

Sponsorship of regular features such as travel, weather and event listings are available on a first-come first served basis, with only 20 available at launch.

SnowTrax is the first commercial partner to join as weather sponsor. Director Nick Warne said: “Getting involved from the start with a brand new radio station for our area was a no-brainer. We’re delighted to support the service and wish them all the success for the future.”

Bournemouth One will launch online on January 1, 2024, and on DAB in the near future.

A test stream is now live on BournemouthOne.com, via mobile phone apps, smart speakers and TuneIn.
