A BAND from Swanage will open for music star Jake Bugg in Poole.

Four-piece Galaxy Thief will support the singer-songwriter when he performs at Lighthouse on Monday, December 11.

The gig was offered after Lighthouse was asked to nominate a local band to join Jake Bugg and his tour support.

Lead singer Rhys Messenger said: “We’re really excited to play one of the biggest concert venues in the area, so thank you to everyone who helped make it happen.”

On the day they found out, Galaxy Thief had been booked to play Live and Unheard which is Lighthouse’s regular grass roots music night.

Rhys said: 'That was prestigious enough and we loved playing it, but to think that now we're about to play on the same stage as legends like The Who, U2, Page and Plant, even Michael Jackson, there’s a lot to be excited about.”

The indie rock outfit has previously played alongside the likes of The Hoosiers, Scouting For Girls and Toploader.

They also won the chance to open for The Streets and Arlo Parks at Glastonbury Festival’s Pilton Party.

The Jake Bugg show at Lighthouse in the Concert Hall will be Galaxy Thief’s biggest indoor show to date.

It is also the venue’s first standing gig in five years.
