A LEISURE centre in Bournemouth is on track to re-open next week following a month-long closure.

Littledown Centre, including its café, bar and outdoor sports facilities, is set to re-open on Tuesday, January 2.

The site at Chaseside closed on December 4 for essential electrical maintenance work to take place.

Over the four-week closure, work was done to install new electrical panels and replace those that were damaged during a plant room fire in November 2022.

Other improvements included fitting energy-efficient LED lighting.

The council also commissioned the removal of the centre’s water flumes which were said to have ‘reached their end of life’ and were no longer operational.

Rob Cunningham, BH Live’s associate director for leisure, said: “We want to thank our customers and our leisure centre teams for their patience amidst the temporary closure.

"Littledown is such an important asset to the local community, providing a wealth of activities and classes for clubs, community groups and visitors of all ages.

“We can’t wait to reopen and are so excited to welcome our customers back.”

Activity timetables for the next year are now live, and classes are bookable up to seven days in advance.

Littledown is managed by registered charity BH Live, in partnership with BCP Council.

As Littledown re-opens on January 2, a 12-week-long refurbishment is set to begin at the Stokewood centre, also in Bournemouth.

The centre will have its changing rooms revamped, in improvements BH Live say will "make a big difference to the facilities at Stokewood".

Stokewood will remain open and operating as usual throughout the changing room renovations.
