WIMBORNE High Street will be closed for a week this month.

The road will be closed temporarily while power company SSE carries out energy works.

The work will affect the high street at Wimborne Minster between The Square and East Street, which is approximately 180 metres long.

Dorset Council has made an order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984.

All vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along the high street.

A statement from Dorset Council said: "The order is needed to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and the minimisation of the likelihood of danger to highway users."

The closure has been requested to allow SSE to carry out upgrade works on its network.

These works are set to take place from March 18 until March 26.

SSE will place information boards on the road in this area to inform the public of the works.

It will also carry out a letter drop to nearby residents directly affected by the works.

SSE will sign a diversion route for vehicles using the local road network.
