SALLY Wilton (letter, 14 March) thinks that the Echo is not reflecting a fair representation of views on the proposed 20 mph speed limit zones because those published are mostly against them. The paper can only print what readers send in – in proportion, one would hope, to the views submitted.
Where is the 0.4 per cent in speed reduction published? A Bristol scheme reports a 0.4 mph speed reduction – but on inner-city roads which would have slow traffic already.
As I have said, if 20 mph is good, then 10 mph should be even better. And why not 5 mph?
The BMJ published a report on a three year study, showing that “20 mph speed limits have little impact on crashes, casualties, driver speed”.
Whom should one believe?
