THE Wessex Way through Bournemouth will see partial closures next week expecting to bring disruption to motorists.

The A338 between Westbourne and Cooper Dean roundabout will see phased closures overnight from Wednesday, April 3.

Starting from 8.30pm workmen will be at the side of the dual carriageway carrying out maintenance work including vegetation and litter removal.

The first night will be closed both ways from County Gates Roundabout to St Pauls Roundabout by Asda as well as eastbound from St. Pauls Roundabout to Springbourne Roundabout.

Westbound will remain open on Wednesday night with the rest of the road reopening from 5am on Thursday.

Then, later that day from 8.30pm, the second night of maintenance work will begin meaning the road will close.

This is from Cooper Dean Flyover to Springbourne Roundabout, on both sides of the carriageway, and westbound from Springbourne Roundabout to St. Pauls Roundabout (eastbound will remain open).

Sections will be closed and reopened during each night as work progresses, BCP Council said.

Full emergency services access will be maintained and access to properties will be maintained depending on site safety.

Signed diversion routes will be in place for each night during the planned work.

BCP Council said: “The council regrets any inconvenience to the public caused by this temporary prohibition.”

The other part of the A338, the Spur Road into and out of Bournemouth, recently closed temporarily for vegetation and litter removal.

Dorset Council closed the road last November for a couple of nights between Ashley Heath roundabout on the A31 and Blackwater junction at Christchurch Road.
