SOUTH Western Railway is set to run a reduced service due to industrial action this weekend and into next week.

The ASLEF Union began industrial action today, April 4, and it is set to run until Tuesday, April 9 on every day except for Sunday, April 7.

On April 4, 5, 6, and 9, a revised timetable will operate on all lines across the SWR network, due to a ban on overtime working.

Passengers should check before travelling as late notice cancellations are possible.

A significantly reduced service will run on a limited number of lines on Monday, April 8, with no trains running on lines to Bournemouth, Poole and Weymouth.

Trains on Monday will only run between Basingstoke and Salisbury and London Waterloo and Basingstoke, Feltham, Guildford via Woking, and Woking.

These services will only run between 7am and 7pm, with customers advised to only travel if their journeys are absolutely necessary.

For essential journeys, passengers should check before they travel. Industrial action will also affect the London Underground on Monday, April 8.

There will be further service changes on Saturday, April 6, due to engineering work closing lines in the Andover, Brockenhurst and Staines areas.

Steve Tyler, South Western Railway’s performance and planning director, said: “Industrial action by the ASLEF union will mean only a significantly reduced service will run on Monday 8 April, so we are asking our customers to only travel if their journeys are absolutely necessary. For essential journeys, customers should check journey planners before setting off.

“The overtime ban on Thursday 4, Friday 5, Saturday 6 and Tuesday 9 April will mean that timetables will be revised. We are asking our customers to check before they travel, right up until they set off, as alterations on the day are possible.

“We are very sorry for the disruption that this industrial action will cause our customers and are very thankful for their continued patience.”

Passengers should check their whole journey across the days of industrial action as it will impact operators on different days.
