A DRINK driver was arrested by police who had been waiting to catch him.

Lymington and New Milton Police received a report of a man who had been drinking heavily in Lymington town centre on Friday evening before leaving the area in a vehicle.

Witnesses provided a registration plate to police, although it was incorrect and the man could not be located.

The following evening, the same man returned to the town in the same vehicle.

However, officers from the District Policing Team (DPT) with some free time had been waiting for him.

The man was breathalysed and blew 96mg in a 100ml of breath – placing him almost three times over the legal limit.

He was arrested and taken to custody.

In a Facebook post following the incident, Lymington and New Milton Police described it as "good old fashioned policing".
