A BUSINESS has presented a cheque for more than £6,000 to the founder of a charity supporting terminally ill children.

Caterpillar Marine Power UK gave the cheque for £6,118 to Carly Hopkin of the Lexi May Trust.

Every two years, the business, based at the Ferndown and Uddens Business Improvement District, selects a local charity to support through its fundraising activities.

The Lexi May Trust was set up after Lexi May, the middle child of Carly and Michael, lost her life to an inoperable brain tunour.

The family set up the charity in memory of her to support terminally ill children and those living with life-limiting illnesses in Dorset.

It has a beach hut in Swanage which welcomes families into a quiet space away from home to enjoy family time or a place to grieve.

Jude Castell leads the charity committee at the company.

She said: “Covid has been a challenging time for charities and for companies, whose fundraising depends on organised events and people working full time in the office.

“We consistently look to run events, including raffles and special days at the facility to try and raise as much as we can.”
