KYLE Newman will undergo X-rays on his left collarbone and fingers after being involved in a horror spill while riding for Buccaneers at Weymouth tonight.

Wildcats rider Luke Wiltshire fell in front of Bournemouth Castle Cover guest Newman on the first bend of heat one during his side’s 49-41 away challenge win at the Wessex Stadium.

And the Corfe Mullen-based teenager and former Buccaneers rider did not have time to avoid hitting the stricken Weymouth man as he looked to cut back on the inside to try and overtake Byron Bekker and Brendan Johnson.

Newman’s bike powered into the back of Wiltshire’s body.

Then it jumped into the air, somersaulting Newman over Wiltshire and his own bike’s handlebars hard into the safety fence.

Bournemouth’s guest received 20 minutes treatment on the track, and it was originally feared he had sustained an injury to the top of his neck, and concussion.

But Newman’s sister, Jade, talking to the Echo from Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester at 10.15pm, said: “Kyle is laughing and joking, and the doctors don’t think he’s injured his neck.

“They just put him on a spinal board before he went into the ambulance as a precautionary measure.

“He’s at the hospital now and they have cut his kevlars and he’s waiting for X-rays.

“If he’s damaged anything, the doctors think it may be his right middle finger and his left collarbone, the one he broke last year.”

Jade, whose brother broke his thigh in six places in a track spill at Newport late last season but had confirmed his full fitness at the beginning of this term, added: “Actually, they don’t think he’s broken anything at all because he has movement.

“They think he’s more than likely just got heavy bruising.

“They haven’t cut the strap on his helmet, and that’s what they usually do if they think a rider has concussion.

“He’s got no memory loss, he knows what day it is, so they think he’s okay in that respect.

“We just have to wait for the result of the X-ray.”
