POLICE are warning the public to be on their guard against credit card scams after two elderly Bournemouth residents were targeted by a bogus caller.

The trickster told their victims that their debit or credit card was about to expire and asked for their pin number. The next day a bogus courier called at the victims’ home addresses to exchange their old card for a new one.

The victims then discovered money had been taken from their accounts.

Dorset police crime prevention advisor Debbie Oldfield said: “These are callous crimes where older members of our community have been deliberately targeted. It is important that people do not hand over their pin numbers or bank cards to anyone, no matter how genuine they appear to be. Banks will not ask for pin numbers or any personal information over the phone.”
